About People, Culture and Work
Much of my focus over the last 6 months has been on hiring. I have spent an insane number of hours chatting with candidates. During these discussions, candidates often asked me what is the FarmSetu team culture like?
As a team, we make sure the product gets shipped, it solves the users' pain and provides an awesome user experience.
This requires a level of team work, dedication, discipline, and technical skills.
At the same time, we are open, transparent and fun to be around.
There is something about this team picture, it made me smile, it captures our team spirit nicely.
Since Oct 2021, we had roughly 375 applicants and from that, we rolled out about 20 offers. I believe the first 25-30 hires are extremely important for the company and its culture. Without that cultural foundation, no company can survive, grow and thrive. The topic of “People & Culture” is covered in detail in my previous post.

So, how do I describe who we are and what we stand for? As an agrifood software product company, we take the "farmer first" approach, always. The farmer is the centre of our universe. Whatever we do will add a net positive value to the farmer first, and aggregately to the broader supply chain next.
We have made sure that our team is closer to our end-users and they get regular feedback on our product from them.
This is why we have only a few “100% remote” roles. Apart from that, a small number of the team works in a “hybrid” mode, i.e., they are supposed to spend at least a week in a given month with the rest of the team and our end users. While most of the team works from our office in Nashik, India.
Our user environment is messy and the team needs to experience it first-hand in order to create solutions.
I also believe that there is a certain level of chemistry and bonding that is created by spending time together as a team. People often underestimate the power of “learning by osmosis” - you can soak in the knowledge by sitting with the team, asking questions, and having those conversations over tea/coffee/lunch.
As a team we enjoy what we do, have fun and take pride in our work. We are obsessed with delivering value to our stakeholders.
We are thinkers, creators and builders.
We are transparent, diligent, hardworking and continuously demonstrate rigour and discipline in whatever we do.
